The Cottage in Katsilohori.

This charming two storey cottage was built in 1923, and stands in a plot of 423 square metres. The building is L-shaped and abuts the street running through the hamlet of Katsilohori. As this road leads only to the open fields, there is almost no through traffic. While requiring complete renovation of the interior, the cottage was re-roofed two years ago, and is completely weather proof. The north and east facing walls have been rendered, while the remaining walls show the original stonework and the wooden battens used traditionally for earthquake protection.

Downstairs Sitting Room
Currently the front door leads into a tiled hallway, from which leads off a small sitting room with fireplace, a kitchen area with a door to the yard, and a small room currently used as storage space. There is also a storage area leading off the kitchen, under the floor of the sitting room.


2. First Floor.

Wooden stairs lead from the hallway to the first floor, opening into what was originally the saloni, or main living area. Two bedrooms, one with a fireplace, lead off the saloni.

The boundary with the road is walled, with a double iron gateway leading to the paved yard in the angle of the 'L'. The yard has a vine trellis, but this will need replacing, and more vines planted. Across the yard is the traditional wood-fired bread oven, in need of some repair, and the land then slopes gently down to the boundary some 30 metres away.

In the hamlet of Katsilohori, some 2 kms from the centre of the 'head village' of Arghalasti, which has good grocery stores, the local Health Centre, and a Saturday market. Located high in the centre of the Pelion peninsula, the Cottage is ideal for access to beaches and coastline of both the Pagasitic Gulf, to the west and south, and those of the Aegean Sea, to the east.
